The French are football-mad and none more so than the Marseillais: the Olympique de Marseille (OM for short) occupies a central place in the city's cultural landscape. Founded in 1899, it remains the most decorated club in French football history and the only one to win the UEFA Champions League, in 1992-3. And before long the team will have a brand-new stadium to play in.
